(Florham Park) Aaron Rodgers reportedly agreed to a new contract with the New York Jets on Wednesday, taking a pay cut in a bid to help his new team win the Super Bowl.

Rodgers signed a two-year, $75 million guaranteed pact, according to a person familiar with the matter.

He was to receive nearly 110 million in guaranteed salary under his old contract, signed with the Green Bay Packers. He will make less money with New York, reiterating his desire to stay with the team beyond the upcoming season.

The source who revealed the information to The Associated Press requested anonymity, since the team has not yet confirmed the contract.

The NFL Network was the first to report this new deal. Earlier Wednesday, Rodgers confirmed to ProFootballTalk that he had agreed to a contract overhaul.

The Jets haven’t played in the Super Bowl since their lone win in 1969 with quarterback Joe Namath.

“The team gave in too much for it to be just a one-year stint (in his case),” Rodgers said before news of that contract became public knowledge. Anything can happen with my body or as a record this year, but I’m having a lot of fun. I don’t really see it as a one-year story. »

The Jets gave the Packers a first-round, second-round and sixth-round pick in April.

The trade also includes a conditional second-round selection next year that will become a first-round pick if Rodgers is behind the line of scrimmage for 65% of the stakes.

Green Bay gave two picks for next year’s draft, in addition to the quarterback.

Rodgers had already agreed to an initial contract overhaul to allow the deal to go through. He was supposed to receive a 58.3 million bonus this year, but it was pushed back to next year. The move allowed the Jets to pay him $1.2 million for his first three months with the team and make other roster changes.

But that restructuring also meant that Rodgers’ salary in 2024 would count as $107.6 million on the payroll.

The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since January 2011 — the longest such drought in the NFL.
