Warning: if you have recently done your shopping, in particular to replenish your stock of food for breakfast or a snack: quickly check your cupboards. As the Capital newspaper indicates in a recent article: the supermarkets Netto and Intermarché have just carried out a massive recall of numerous batches of sandwich bread, brioche bread, croissants and pain au chocolat from the brands Chabrior, Top Budget and own brand Netto for a suspicion of the presence of sulphites. According to the site  rappel.conso.gouv.fr, all the offending batches were marketed throughout France between June 2, 2023 and July 13, 2023.

Food recalls are sometimes caused by the suspicion of the presence, or the detection of products dangerous to health if they are in large quantities. Here it is sulphite. If the molecule is harmless at low concentration, it can cause food poisoning comparable to an allergy if it is abundantly present in a product.

As the health authorities point out, the ingestion of a product with a sulphite content above the regulatory threshold by a sensitive consumer “can lead to serious allergic reactions”. If you have eaten one of these batches of sandwich bread and you have allergic reactions, you are strongly advised to consult your doctor, specifying this consumption.

The items affected by this recall, extra-soft plain, wholemeal bread, sliced brioche, round brioches, chocolate chip brioches, croissants and pain au chocolat have been detailed by the site rappel.conso .gouv.fr. Netto and Intermarché advise customers who have purchased one of these items not to consume it, to destroy it or to bring it back to the store, where they will be reimbursed. For any additional questions, Netto and Intermarché consumer services are at your disposal. The end date of the recall procedure has been set for Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
