(Anaheim) Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist in his 700th National Hockey League game on Monday night as the Colorado Avalanche posted their third straight 5-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Like MacKinnon, Bowen Byram had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who are one point behind the Central Division-leading Dallas Stars.

Jack Johnson, Valeri Nichushkin and Samuel Girard scored the Avalanche’s other goals while Cale Makar had two assists. Jonas Johansson blocked 29 shots.

For the Ducks, who completed an eight-game home stint with a 1-6-1 record, Derek Grant was the lone scorer. Goaltender John Gibson made 39 saves.

Forward Trevor Zegras suffered a lower-body injury in the second period and did not return.

MacKinnon has 24 points so far this month, tied for second in the NHL. He tied for third in March with 10 goals, and became the eighth player in franchise history (Nordiques and Avalanche) to reach 700 games.

His goal, scored with 7.9 seconds left in the first period, helped the Avalanche break a 1-1 tie.
