Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and as a result he will miss the remainder of the NFL season.

A person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press on Monday that a magnetic resonance imaging test confirmed its severity. This person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the California club has yet to reveal the nature of Williams’ injury.

Williams was injured late in the third quarter of the game which ended 28-24 in favor of the Chargers against the Minnesota Vikings. The wide receiver caught a pass for 11 yards on the stretch that led to his injury.

There is still no date for surgery since the inflammation must resolve before he can go under the knife.

Williams had seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown during the game. He has 19 passes caught for 249 yards and a major so far this season.
