Four years later, the 80km/h limit on certain roads still causes dissatisfaction. As a reminder, this law was passed under the government of Edouard Philippe in response to the large number of fatal accidents on the roads. However, speed is most often linked to it since it is the leading cause in France, representing 31% of cases according to figures from sécurité-routière.gouv.fr.

Thus, the purpose of this measure was to reduce the number of fatal accidents on the roads where they occurred most often, those in two directions without a central separator. It is on these axes that 55% of road deaths occur.

Despite everything, some departments have affirmed their opposition to this new regulation and have thus returned to the old speed limits, as reported by L’Argus in December 2021.

For the moment, four departments have chosen to restore the 90km/h limit on all the roads concerned:

On the other hand, several of them have partly restored the old rule, on part of the axes concerned. Here are those who have done it on more than 10% of their routes.

A majority of the departments have nevertheless kept this new speed limit on all of their axes concerned. Here are which ones.
