(Jacksonville) Tom Coughlin, the first head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, will have his name added to the team’s Ring of Honor next season.

The Florida team confirmed the news Thursday, adding that Coughlin will become the seventh member of the “Jaguar Pride” in a game to be determined in 2024. Next season will be the Jaguars’ 30th in the NFL .

Coughlin, who is 77, is the most successful head coach in Jaguars history. He went 72-64 in eight seasons with them and led the Jaguars to the AFC championship game in 1996 and 1999. He was fired in December 2002, after a third straight losing season.

Coughlin then joined the New York Giants, leading them to the Super Bowl twice in 12 years. The Giants defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the NFL championship game in 2007 and 2011. Coughlin was also a candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

Coughlin will join the Jaguars’ ring of honor as tackle Tony Boselli (inducted in 2006), original owners Wayne and Delores Weaver (2012), running back Fred Taylor (2012), quarterback Mark Brunell (2013). ) and wide winger Jimmy Smith (2016).
