New challenge for Emmanuel Macron. From Thursday June 22 to Friday June 23, 2023, on the occasion of the summit for a new financial pact, the President receives the Heads of State of many countries, major international organizations, NGOs and climate and finance experts . The objective of this meeting is to lay the foundations of a new global financial system.

On the first day of this international summit, leaders gathered around round tables to discuss various topics, according to franceinfo. Among them, we find the question of restructuring the debts of poor countries and considered to be the most likely to suffer the consequences of global warming. The reform of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank should also be addressed.

Among the guests of this summit, we find Mohammed Ben Salmane, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Lula, President of Brazil, or Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. The latter met on the morning of June 22 in Paris where Emmanuel Macron opened the summit for a new global financial pact. “No country should have to choose,” he said then.

“We have to take on a public funding shock,” he continued. He then stressed the need for private funding. Moreover, on the site dedicated to this event, the President returned to the interest of this meeting and France’s expectations. “The fight against poverty, the decarbonisation of our economy, in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and the protection of biodiversity are closely linked. We must therefore jointly agree on the best way to deal with these challenges in poor and emerging countries in the developing world,” it read. But will there be decisions at the national level?

The first day of the summit ended with the positive announcement of Kristalina Gerogieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Indeed, the latter confirmed that the objective of mobilizing 100 billion dollars for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations has been achieved. But on Friday June 23, when the second day of the summit will begin, the French head of state will grant an interview to several media.

Emmanuel Macron will thus be the special guest of franceinfo radio, franceinfo, RFI and France 24 at 8:30 a.m. The interview will be broadcast live from the Palais Brongniart, in Paris. The president will then answer questions from journalists Marc Fauvelle, Mounia Daoudi and Stéphane Ballong. But what will be the topics covered in this interview? Emmanuel Macron, is he likely to make new announcements?

He “will be questioned about the challenge of ecological transition and the help provided to developing countries in order to face the climate emergency and the fight against poverty”, announced the media France 24 in its press release. Other points will be discussed such as the modes of financing envisaged. Emmanuel Macron is also expected to talk about the commitments of France and its partners.

“What funding? What contribution from the richest countries? What mobilization of civil society and private sector actors?” will be among the questions asked by journalists from partner media in this interview. No specific announcement is yet predicted.
