(Beijing) The boss of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, will start an Asian tour in China on Wednesday which will also take her to Indonesia and India, the international institution announced on Tuesday.

“From August 30 to September 3, the Managing Director will visit China to participate in bilateral discussions with the Chinese leadership team,” an IMF spokeswoman said in a statement provided to AFP.

Ms. Georgieva had already been to China in March for an extended visit, where she had notably participated in a forum organized by the Chinese government.

She notably welcomed the strong contribution that the Asian giant will make to global growth in 2023, urging however Beijing to rebalance its economy towards consumption.

The IMF predicts a 5.2% increase in China’s GDP this year.

After her visit to China, Kristalina Georgieva will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia (September 4-7), where she will attend an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ Summit.

Then the IMF Managing Director will travel to New Delhi, India (September 8-10) to attend the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit, which brings together 19 of the world’s largest economies in the European Union.
