South Korean automaker Hyundai showed off the first images of the next-generation Santa Fe midsize SUV last week. True to its design-driven philosophy of change, its styling redirection is nothing short of dramatic.

Aware of the popularity of the Land Rover Defender and more recently the Lexus GX, the designers have adopted a retro-futuristic angular presentation.

The H-shaped front headlights add an element of originality to the presentation, as do the particularly low-set H-shaped taillights. Interestingly, Hyundai states in its short press release that it has amassed a lot of data on the latest outdoor trends to come up with this design.

For the moment, nothing has been revealed on the mechanical level, Hyundai preferring to wait for the official unveiling scheduled for August.
