No, you’re not dreaming, it’s like being in the middle of summer. Summer has not yet officially arrived – you will have to wait until June 21 for that – that the thermometer already displays temperatures worthy of a month of July. A heat wave is settling in France this week, with temperatures rising to 33°C on Wednesday June 14. In around forty departments, the thermometer will show 30°C or more on Wednesday or Thursday, so be careful if you have to go out. Météo France explains in its latest bulletin that “all week, temperatures will remain at a high level for the season, without major excess heat”.

A forecaster from the institute clarified on Twitter that maximum temperatures (greater than or equal to 25°C) have been visible in France for 15 days, an unprecedented episode in terms of its earliness and duration. The most recent took place in 2023 and started on June 6 against May 29 this year. As a reminder, the summer of 2003 was one of the hottest ever recorded in France, with a particularly strong episode of heat wave. Is the phenomenon likely to happen again this summer?

It is still too early to tell but, one thing is certain, the temperatures will not drop in the next few days, at least not by this weekend. According to Météo France forecasts, 30°C will be reached or exceeded in around forty departments and not those accustomed to high temperatures… Indeed, the south of the country will escape these temperatures and it is rather the northern and eastern regions. West that will be impacted. Be careful, therefore, if you have to go out this Wednesday 14 and this Thursday 15 June.
