(Hamburg) Noma Noha Akugue reached the final in Hamburg, in the first WTA tournament where she made the main draw.

The 19-year-old German defeated fellow player of the same age, Russian Diana Shnaider, 6-3, 6-3.

A dream tournament at home therefore continues for Akugue, guest player and ranked 207th in the world.

“At the beginning of the week, I thought I had to go through qualifying,” she said on Servus TV. I am so happy with the result today. I hope I will be able to offer my best tennis in the final. »

Akugue has mostly played on the ITF Tour. She was beaten in qualifying at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.

Her rival in the final will be Arantxa Rus, a 32-year-old Dutchwoman.

Rus won 2-6, 6-3 and 6-1 over Daria Saville.

The WTA says it will be the first left-handed final since 2018 when Petra Kvitova defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu in Prague.

On the men’s side, favorite Casper Ruud was upset 6-0, 6-4 by Arthur Fils. The latter will have as his next rival Alexander Zverev, scorer of Luca van Assche, 6-3 and 6-4.

Laslo Djere beat defending champion Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 6-3. In the semi-finals, he will face Zhang Zhizhen, winning 6-4 and 6-4 against Daniel Altmaier.
