Summer is gradually setting in, and for many French people, it’s time to maintain their garden and arrange it. But, watering its space requires a large amount of water. Indeed, to humidify it, it is necessary to count nearly 15 to 20 liters per square meter, according to Planetscope. This represents a consumption of approximately 2,000 liters per year for a garden of 100 meters.

In May 2022, the National Union of Landscape Companies (Unep), in collaboration with Ifop, revealed a study on French gardening habits. 7 out of 10 respondents have a garden. Even more, “in 2022, 5% of French people say they enjoy a shared garden (as much as in 2019) and a third (34%) say they have no private or shared green space”, specifies the study. The profiles of the gardeners are quite diverse, but 72% of them remain people aged between 50 and 64 years.

Among the owners of a garden, 94% of them live in a house. Among them, 71% live in a more isolated city and 92% in a more rural city. “On the other hand, only 55% of the inhabitants of central cities have a garden, ie 16 points less than the inhabitants of so-called isolated city centres”, concludes the study. But overall, apart from this divide between rural and urban space, the French of all regions appreciate taking care of their garden.
