(Cooperstown) Jacques Doucet is once again one of 10 finalists for the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually by the Baseball Hall of Fame to one of the most celebrated voices in America’s national pastime.

Doucet, who is 83 years old, was a play caller for the Montreal Expos starting in 1969, the Montreal team’s first season in Major Baseball. After covering approximately one match per week, the man who covered club activities for La Presse made the jump behind the microphone full-time in 1972 until leaving the club in 2004.

He described more than 5,500 matches during his glorious career, including Dennis Martinez’s perfect match on July 28, 1991.

Since 2012, Doucet has also described Toronto Blue Jays games for TV channel TVA Sports.

Doucet was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame this summer, after being elected in February 2020.

Other finalists for the Ford C. Frick Award this year are describers Joe Buck, Joe Castiglione, Gary Cohen, Tom Hamilton, Ernie Johnson Sr., Ken Korach, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper and Dan Shulman.

The winner will be revealed on December 6 in Nashville, during the Major Baseball Winter Conference. He will then be honored on July 20, as part of the festivities surrounding the inductions into the Baseball Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, New York.
