Carl Nassib, the first openly gay player to play a regular season game in the NFL, announced his retirement on Wednesday.

Nassib publicly confirmed his sexual orientation in 2021, while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. He spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for me, but after seven seasons and just over 100 NFL games I’ve decided to retire to focus on my Rayze business,” Nassib wrote on Instagram. Looks like just yesterday I was in school at Penn State University. »

Nassib, 30, was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft. He had 25½ sacks in seven seasons with the Browns, Raiders and two stints with the Buccaneers.
