Silver medalists earlier this month at the Grand Prix d’Angers, France, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen repeated the feat on Saturday by once again finishing on the second step of the podium, this time in the Grand Prix d’Angers, France. ‘Espoo, Finland.
The Quebec ice dancers were seated in the second provisional row after the rhythmic dance program which was presented on Friday. The Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates, victorious in Allen, Texas, at the very start of the season, were then the only ones ahead of Fournier Beaudry and Sorensen in the rankings.
In the free dance on Saturday, Chock and Bates once again had the highest score of the day with 123.85 points. Just behind them, the Quebecers received 123.70 points to secure their place on the second step of the podium with their total of 206.32 points.
“We are super happy to have delivered another great performance with a routine that we really enjoy. It’s always nice to come to Finland, the public is very warm and it’s an event that we love year after year,” Sorensen began.
This medal should also allow the Canadian duo to participate in the Grand Prix final which will take place starting December 7 in Beijing, China. Fournier Beaudry and Sorensen took sixth place last year in Turin.
“We’re going to the finals for the second year in a row! This is awesome and will definitely be fun. We will take the time to return to training at home in the coming days to be ready,” said Laurence Fournier Beaudry.
“We’re excited for what’s next. We don’t want to make major changes to our routines, we just need to improve a few technical points and everything could be perfect,” she added.
The Americans and Canadians were accompanied on the podium by the Finns Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis (195.80 points).
