The figures for food waste in France are very substantial, since nearly 10 million tonnes of products are lost per year. These losses have an estimated cost of 16 billion euros, as the Ministry of Ecological Transition tells us. Nevertheless, a collective awareness is emerging more and more. With smartphone applications aimed at combating food waste, such as TooGoodToGo, for example, an eco-responsible conscience is being established among a large number of French people.

However, when our food expires in our fridges or cupboards, it is quite common that we do not know how to reuse it. With our tips available in our slideshow below, there will be no question of putting these products in the trash. Go to our slides to see how to reuse your expired food.

The consumption of expired products is often debated. If certain foods are to be banned from our plates when they are expired, as is the case with poultry for example, others can be eaten. And yes, the statement “best before…” is, for many people, wrongly confused with the statement “use by…”. The first represents only an optimal use-by date, which means that the food remains edible after the date indicated. The only risk is that your product is a little less beautiful and less rich in nutrients. Nevertheless, for the second mention, risks of food poisoning must be taken into account. If you experience symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or other: it is best to consult your doctor.
