(Edmonton) The Edmonton Oilers signed forwards Sam Gagner and Brandon Sutter to professional tryouts before the start of training camp.

This is the third stint with the Oilers for Gagner, who was drafted by the Alberta squad in 2007 before moving to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014. He also played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks before to sign a new contract with the Oilers in 2018.

In all, he played 542 games with the Oilers, scoring 317 points, including 111 goals.

Sutter meanwhile played 770 games in 13 seasons with the Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring 152 goals and adding 137 assists.

Whoever was selected with the 11th overall pick by the Hurricanes in 2007 missed the 2021-22 season due to symptoms associated with long-term COVID.
