(Edmonton) Edmonton Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell was not claimed on waivers, and as a result he was assigned to the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

The Oilers (2-8-1) also recalled goaltender Calvin Pickard from the Condors.

The Alberta team is having a bad start to the season and placed Campbell on waivers on Tuesday in the hope of reviving their goaltender.

The 31-year-old veteran, in the second year of a five-year, $25 million contract, is 1-4-0 with a 4.50 goals-against average and .873 saves in five appearances in front of the Oilers net this season.

Pickard, also 31, is 2-2 with a 2.03 GAA and .939 save percentage in four games for the Condors this season. He also had a 23-12-2 record with a 2.70 GAA and a .912 save percentage with the Condors in 2022-23, his first season in the Oilers organization.

Pickard was a second-round pick, 49th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

He played primarily as a backup goalie during his 116-game NHL career. He was 15-31-2 with the Avalanche in 2016-17, his only campaign as the No. 1 goaltender in the Bettman League.

The Oilers will face the Sharks (1-10-1) in San Jose on Thursday night.
