“The insecurity that our fellow citizens encounter on the Internet is undermining their confidence in digital technology. All French people are concerned”. This Thursday, June 8, 2023, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate for the Digital Transition, was heard by a special Senate committee to present his digital space bill, reports Public Senate.

This future piece of legislation must fight against ever more numerous and sophisticated scams. According to Public Sénat, the first measure would destroy the scam system by sending emails or SMS. To do this, an anti-scam filter, also called “national cybersecurity filter” will be put in place.

Jean-Noël Barrot had already spoken about it in February 2023 on FranceInfo: according to the minister, this filter must warn the user, on computer or smartphone, when he goes to a website considered fraudulent or dangerous. Thus, the false website addresses sent by criminals will no longer be able to trap Internet users.

“These are the most vulnerable, who find themselves robbed of their savings or drawn into the infernal spiral of identity theft. We must cut the evil at the root and devitalize the trade of these mafias who have instrumentalized themselves”, declared the minister delegate before the special committee of the Senate on Thursday, June 8.

According to Jean-Noël Barrot, the “national cybersecurity filter” should prevent 18 million French people from being victims of cyber-scams each year. According to TF1, the device will be installed by default on digital devices and can be deactivated manually. The government should test it during the Rugby World Cup next September, before it is generalized for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
