A major fraud has reportedly occurred in recent months at Desjardins, which is currently investigating one of its employees, suspected of having stolen nearly $3 million from the company.

This fraud would have taken place at the Caisse populaire de Saint-Hubert, on the South Shore, according to what anonymous sources told the Journal de Montréal.

The suspected person was met by Desjardins investigators last Friday. This would also be the case for several employees, who have been spoken to for more information in recent weeks.

Called to comment on this matter, the spokesperson for Desjardins, Jean-Benoît Turcotti, remained brief.

“Checks are underway regarding this situation,” he wrote to La Presse. Desjardins is collaborating with the police and in order not to interfere with the work of the police and our internal checks, we cannot provide any additional information. »

“It should be noted that no member or customer suffered any financial loss,” the spokesperson added.

Four years ago, Desjardins was the target of a gigantic data theft, which affected approximately nine million current and former customers.
