Daniel Bélanger never goes unnoticed at the ADISQ gala and it is the same this year: his album Mercure en mai earned him a total of nine citations, all in a personal capacity. An exceptional score, even for a regular like him.

A long-time public favorite and creator respected by his peers since forever, he has been cited in the categories of Album of the Year – Critic’s Choice, Pop Album, Album of the Year – Popular Hit, Song of the Year for J ‘hear everything that’s playing (in your head), Male Artist of the Year and Author or Composer of the Year.

He is also nominated in a personal capacity for the Félix awarded to the best production of a record and to sound recording and mixing, this time in the company of Pierre Girard, an artisan of the shadows whose ears and know-how have been put serving a number of significant Quebec albums for almost three decades. He shares a nomination for best album cover of the year with Secret City Records.

Two very popular artists at the opposite ends of the spectrum follow him closely: Alexandra Stréliski and Lisa LeBlanc. The latter is cited six times in a personal capacity (the other two nominations go to designers of her show), while the six quotes from Alexandra Stréliski concern her directly. The two creators will compete in the Artist of the Year – International Outreach category and both find themselves cited with Daniel Bélanger in the Album of the Year – Popular Success category.

Unusual fact, Les Cowboys Fringants, who led the imposing tour that we know during the summer, are cited twice in the Album of the Year – Popular Success category with two different records: the soundtrack of their film America is crying and In concert with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. The famous quartet is of course nominated in the Group or Duo of the Year category (which can hardly escape it) and that of Album of the Year – Reinterpretation where Isabelle Boulay also appears for her surprising album dedicated to Alain Bashung.

The group Salebarbes is cited five times (including four in a personal capacity) for its album Gin à l’eau salée and its popular show currently on tour. FouKi is also cited four times, notably in the Album of the Year – Critics’ Choice category, as is the group 2Frères, which stands out in the Song of the Year, Popular Success and Group or Duo of the Year categories. year.

Deciding which artists are the most cited remains a delicate exercise. The so-called “artistic” nominations generally concern the group or the main artist, while the technical categories generally go to collaborating artists such as sound recordists, directors, etc. However, it happens that certain creators – Daniel Bélanger is the perfect example – are directly involved in all stages of the creation of their work, from writing to designing the cover. Hence the differences that we will not fail to notice in the way of calculating the nominations.

Note that the albums of Innu artists Kanen (Mitshuap) and Matiu (Tipatshimushtunan) were not confined to the indigenous music category and are instead in the running respectively for the Félix awarded to alternative and folk albums of the year. The records of Maten (Utenat), Pako (Nanto) and Shauit (Natukun), launched jointly at the Golden Lion in the spring, find themselves in competition in the indigenous languages category with Uapen Nuta/Terre de nos aïeux by Katia Rock.

Pierre Kwenders, winner of the Polaris Prize for José Louis and the Paradox of Love, is one of the artists cited in the world music category with Diogo Ramos (for the excellent Cabaça), Ramon Chicharron (Destello De Estrellas), Wesli (Tradisyon) and Ayrad (III). In rap, the artists in the running for the Félix for album of the year are Loud (No promise), FouKi (Zayon), Calamine (Lesbienne woke on autotune, who should automatically win a Félix for best album title), Rymz (One More Day in Paradise) and Shreez (I’m Heatwave).

Finally, let us point out that Kanen, Jeanick Fournier, Francis DeGrandpré, Bibi Club and Calamine are in the race for the always coveted Félix of the revelation of the year.
