(Glasgow) Canadian Isabella Holmgren won the gold medal ahead of her compatriot Marin Lowe in the junior women’s cross-country race on Thursday at the World Cycling Championships.

Holmgren, of Orillia, Ont., took the lead on the first lap and crossed the finish line in 1:07.37.

Lowe, who hails from Squamish, B.C., finished second 39 seconds behind.

Natalia Grzegorzewska of Poland won the bronze medal.

This world title allows Holmgren to continue his successful season.

She became the first Canadian to win the World Junior Cyclocross Championship in February, finishing 20 seconds ahead of her twin sister Ava in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

Ava Holmgren missed Thursday’s race due to a crash in practice.

“It was crazy and a lot of fun. It still doesn’t feel real, Isabella Holmgren said. I really like the course and the climbing and since Ava couldn’t participate, I just pedaled even harder for her. »
