(Chiang Mai) Canadians Sarah Pavan and Molly McBain won the bronze medal at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge on Sunday.

Pavan and McBain triumphed 2-1 against China’s Jie Dong and Fan Wang to grab third place.

Pavan, of Kitchener, Ont., and McBain, of Toronto, earned their first international medal as a team with a 15-21, 21-16, 15-9 victory.

Pavan and McBain won their group and then eliminated Japan in the elimination phase.

The Canadians defeated the German duo in the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual champions, the Brazilians, in the semi-final.

On the men’s side, Canadians Dan Dearing and Sam Schachter were defeated by the Dutch in the round of 16. The Dutch pair eventually won the gold medal.
