(Montreal) Defending champion Nick Taylor and world No. 2 Rory McIlroy have confirmed their participation in the 2024 Canadian Open, event organizers said Thursday.

Taylor, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, will attempt to become the first Canadian golfer in nearly 70 years to successfully defend his title at the PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament. He triumphed after a four-hole overtime against Englishman Tommy Fleetwood last June at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto.

McIlroy, for his part, won the first of his two Canadian Open titles by a decisive margin of seven strokes in 2017, at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. The 24-time PGA Tour winner triumphed again in Canada in 2022, at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto.

The Northern Irishman will try again in 2024 to join the exclusive club of triple winners of the event, which already includes Tommy Armour, Sam Snead and Lee Trevino.

The tournament will take place from May 18 to June 2, 2024 at the Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario. The Canadian Open, which will be in its 113th edition, returns to Hamilton for the seventh time in its history, and the first since 2019.
