(Walton On The Hill) American Lilia Vu won the British Open on Sunday to claim her second major tournament of 2023.

She scored a 67 and won by six strokes thanks to a total of 274, minus 14.

The 25-year-old Californian also won the Chevron Championship in April.

She became the first golfer to win two major tournaments in the same year since Jin Young Ko in 2019.

She is also the first American to achieve the feat since Juli Inkster in 1999.

Three of the five major tournaments have been won by Americans this year, something that hasn’t happened since 2014.

Allisen Corpuz won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Vu started the final round tied for first place with Charley Hull, an Englishwoman warmly supported by the crowd.

However, she built herself a cushion of five shots in 10 holes.

Hull cut the gap to three shots with an eagle on the 11th hole, sending his ball into the cup from a bunker.

Vu replied with a birdie on the next hole, then she was no longer threatened.

Hull posted a 73, finishing second for the second time in the last three major tournaments.

Vu had a spectacular breakthrough this year with three titles, including two majors. On Monday, she will be ranked first in the world for the first time in her career.

Nelly Korda, the tournament’s top seed, started five strokes behind. She bogeyed on the second hole and played 74, finishing 12 strokes behind Vu.

A tournament winner in 2008 and 2012, Jiyai Shin turned in a 70 and finished third, one stroke behind Hull.
