(Montreal) The blocking of Canadian media news on Meta platforms seems to have an impact in Quebec. According to a survey by Laval University, 29% of Quebecers have changed the way they get information since then.

The University’s Digital Transformation Academy survey found that this proportion even climbs to 61% for adults aged 18 to 34.

The number of people favoring social media as their main source of information is also decreasing, going from 42% in 2022 to 38% this year.

At the same time, news websites have become the primary source for 40% of adults, an increase of 4 percentage points from a year ago.

The survey also noted a decline in trust in information contained on social media, especially among 18- to 34-year-olds. This confidence has remained stable for traditional media.

On the other hand, fewer Quebecers would pay to consult the media; this proportion fell by ten percentage points in one year, from 26 to 16 percent. More people aged 18 to 24 spend money on information, at 27%.

The academy’s data was collected from September 5 to 30, from 1,220 adults on the web. As this is an online survey, margin of error does not apply.
