(Montreal) Suffering from a stress fracture in her back, Ontarian Bianca Andreescu will miss the Cincinnati tournament, where the main draw matches begin on Monday.

The Mississauga player wrote on Twitter that the pain first showed in Washington on July 31, during a first-round loss to Marta Kostyuk.

She said it gradually got worse, contributing to her first-round loss in Montreal to Camila Giorgi on Tuesday.

Andreescu also mentioned that she remains optimistic about competing at the U.S. Open starting August 28.

The Canadian has often been slowed by injuries since 2019, when she was the big winner at Flushing Meadows.

Earlier this year, she missed a month after tearing ligaments in her left ankle in Miami in late March.
