(Beijing) Polish world No.2 Iga Swiatek qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Beijing on Friday, overthrowing Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6-7 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

She will face the American Coco Gauff in the semi-final, just behind her in the WTA rankings, and who for her part dominated the Greek Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-4.

In a high-level match, which delivered its verdict after more than 2:30 hours of play, Garcia, 10th in the world, did not seize his chance after winning the first set and being two points from the match in the second round.

In the end, Swiatek managed to hold on, and snatch the second set in the tiebreaker – even though she had led up to 4-1 in the set – before breaking away to win .

Victorious in just 1 hour 18 minutes against Sakkari, Gauff, 19, will look to face Swiatek to win the 8th final of her career on the circuit, she who won the United States Open this year.
