The deadline is getting closer and closer for many French people: the pension reform will be implemented from September 1st. While it is recommended to start retirement procedures six months before the planned departure date, the first files are pouring into the pension funds. When should you file your application based on your date of birth?

If you were born before September 1, 1961, you are not affected by the pension reform since the increase in the legal retirement age begins for the generation born on or after September 1, 1961. If you were born on this precise date, a rarer but nevertheless plausible case, you will indeed be affected by the reform. You will have to work three more months and contribute 169 quarters to obtain the full rate. In this perspective, it is preferable that you have already sent your retirement request.

If you were born between September 2 and 30, 1961, you are among the first to be affected by the reform. You can retire from January 1, 2024, but you will have to wait until July to submit your retirement application. Finally, in the case where you were born in 1962, 1963, 1964 or 1965 and if you started working young, you can retire at age 60. The long career scheme thus gives you the ability to leave your professional life earlier. It will even be possible, if you started your job before the age of 16, to end your activity at 58.
