(León) Cassandre Prosper led Canada with 13 points as the Maple Leaf reached the quarter-finals of the AmeriCup on Wednesday, beating the Dominican Republic 88-48.

The 18-year-old Quebecer from Rosemère scored nine points in the second quarter.

Prosper also had three rebounds on offense.

She was supported by Yvonne Ejim (11 points), Aaliyah Edwards (10) and Aislinn Konig (10).

The Canadians are ranked fourth in the world.

Yenifer Jimenez led the Dominicans with 13 points.

On Friday, Canada will face the fourth place club in Group B. It will be Venezuela or Argentina.

The best nation in the AmeriCup (apart from the United States) will earn a place in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympics.

The next four countries in the standings will have another chance in a regional competition.

Prosper plays with Notre Dame in the NCAA.
