Seven soccer student-athletes from different regions of Quebec were recently rewarded for their continuous efforts on the field and on the school benches.

The Aléo, Ali Gerba and Patrice Bernier foundations as well as the Ringleaders club awarded them a $2,000 scholarship as part of the first edition of a brand new soccer scholarship program.

The recipients, all aged between 12 and 14, are Pierre-Olivier Guénette (Montréal), Sam Hamitouche (Saint-Eustache), Maïté Kenline (Saint-Léonard-d’Aston), Dmytro Nazarenko (Repentigny), Janie Pelletier (Cantley ), Aaliyah Picquet (Rigaud) and Benoît Legrand Tapoko Kahou (Laval).

After the scholarships were awarded, which took place at the Complete Striker complex run by Ali Gerba, former professional soccer player Patrice Bernier gave the recipients a lecture on sportsmanship.

Amy Walsh, member of the Soccer Canada Hall of Fame, was also present to meet the seven student-athletes. Walsh was herself a scholarship recipient of the Aléo Foundation, formerly known as the Fondation de l’athlon d’excellence du Québec.
