(Rolland) The Alcoa plant in Deschambault, in the Quebec region, has a brand new robot that will allow it to automate operations in its activities related to the molten metal furnace.
The robot was unveiled at the Aloca factory on Tuesday. This is an investment of nearly 6.7 million. The government of Quebec contributed $2 million to the project.
The robot was designed by two Quebec companies: equipment designer EPIQ Machinerie and the group of technology experts in the aluminum sector Dynamic Concept.
The robot can automate skimming, dry cleaning of ovens and brewing using programmed sequences. It can move thanks to artificial intelligence and it has an “artificial vision” system.
The implementation of the technology has reached the second phase of development pending “full” implementation and operation planned for the end of 2024.
The new robot represents a “considerable advance” for the automation of the aluminum industry, believes the CEO of EPIQ Machinery, Éloïse Harvey. “This is a further step towards introducing robotization for the execution of complex and high-risk tasks by integrating automation, vision and self-guided vehicle technologies,” she explains in a press release .
