(Toronto) Shopify has reached an agreement with rival Amazon.com that will allow Shopify merchants to integrate Amazon’s logistics capabilities into their Shopify stores.

Competing e-commerce companies say the deal is for an app that Amazon will release within the Shopify ecosystem that will allow U.S. merchants who use Amazon’s fulfillment network to add a “shop with Prime” to their Shopify checkout process.

“Buy with Prime” is an Amazon program that helps merchants offer fast shipping for orders placed through their own sites by leveraging the Seattle-based company’s giant distribution network.

Prior to the announcement of the surprise deal, merchants using Ottawa-based Shopify had to manage “shop with Prime” independently of their Shopify stores.

When the app becomes available to U.S. merchants using Amazon Fulfillment in September, Prime members will have access to fast, free shipping outside of Amazon.com for the first time ever. the companies said.

Shopify President Harley Finkelstein long ago told analysts who wondered if a deal to buy Prime would ever be done that conversations with Amazon were ongoing, but no deal had been reached. been negotiated.
