After 40 years of career, the Quebec metal group Voivod will receive the Medal of the deputy, this Saturday, on the occasion of its participation in the event Kénogami en fête, in Saguenay.

The MNA for Jonquière, Yannick Gagnon, will present the medal to the group made up of Michel Langevin, Denis Bélanger, Daniel Mongrain and Dominic Laroche. This will be, according to the office of the deputy, the highest decoration that the musical formation has received to date.

In a statement released Wednesday, Yannick Gagnon, also government assistant to the Minister of Sports, Recreation and the Outdoors, described the metal band as “probably Jonquière’s greatest ambassador” and also a great source of pride for the region. “Guys play festivals bigger than the Festival d’été de Québec all over the world,” said Yannick Gagnon, recalling that Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl dedicated his song My Hero to Michel Langevin during his recent move to Montreal.

Formed in 1983, Voivod has a discography of sixteen studio albums and has performed several hundred shows in some forty countries. The band received two Juno Awards in the category “Hard Metal/Hardcore Album of the Year” in 2019 and 2023.

Formerly known as the National Assembly Medal, the Member’s Medal is awarded by parliamentarians to individuals or organizations in their electoral district as a form of recognition.
