(Halifax) Acadian singer-songwriter Lisa Leblanc saw her most recent album Chiac Disco honored during the first part of the 35th East Coast Music Awards (ECMA).
The New Brunswick-born artist won a prize in the French-language recording of the year category on Thursday evening at the event that celebrates music from Canada’s east coast.
A total of 15 winners were announced during the evening, which took place at the Scotiabank Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Singer-songwriter David Myles, who had four nominations, won album of the year and solo recording of the year for It’s Only A Little Loneliness.
Adam Baldwin’s Lighthouse in Little Lorraine was recognized as Song of the Year. And Kellie Loder, from Newfoundland and Labrador, was chosen Composer of the Year as well as People’s Choice Artist of the Year.
St. John’s duo Fortunate Ones won the Folk Recording of the Year category for That Was You and Me.
Nova Scotia band The Trews took home rock recording of the year with their album Wanderer, while Juno-winning band The East Pointers walked away with the award for rock recording of the year. group recording of the year with House of Dreams.
The East Pointers topped the gala nominations with six nominations, as did rapper Classified, whose name was not called Thursday night but is up for more awards this weekend.
The second part of the ECMA awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday. It has been announced that the event will be held in Charlottetown in 2024.
