(Ottawa) Vladimir Tarasenko will continue his career in Ottawa after the Senators signed him to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The 31-year-old Russian will receive 5 million. The pact includes a full no-trade clause.

Tarasenko started the 2022-23 season with the St. Louis Blues before being traded to the New York Rangers in February. He had 18 goals and 50 points in 69 games with both teams.

Has scored at least 30 goals six times since making his NHL debut in 2012

“Vladimir is a natural scorer,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said in a statement. He’s a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, but also an underrated playmaker. »

“He produces in the regular season and in the playoffs, so we’re excited to add a player of his caliber to our roster. »

Selected 16th overall in the 2010 draft, Tarasenko has played 675 NHL games, including 644 with the Blues. He has scored 270 career goals and 574 points.

He helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019.

This is Dorion’s second major catch this summer. The GM also signed goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to a five-year, $20m contract when the free agent market opened.

Dorion also traded forward Alex DeBrincat to the Detroit Red Wings on July 9. The move freed up space in the payroll, allowing him to add Tarasenko to his roster.
