Nicole Lapointe, one of the puppeteers behind Passe-Partout and, previously, Nic and Pic, died on April 27, at the age of 89, in Outremont.

It was in the troupe of Micheline Legendre, also a pioneer in the art of puppetry in Quebec, that Nicole Lapointe and her lifelong colleague, Pierre Régimbald, who was stabbed to death in July 2004, were trained. first brought some of their puppets to the small screen thanks to Fanfreluche, a children’s series broadcast between 1968 and 1971 on Radio-Canada television.

Nicole Lapointe and Pierre Régimbald subsequently gave life — and their name — to Nic and Pic, two mice traveling around the world in a hot air balloon.

However, it was as co-creator of the Passe-Partout puppets that Nicole Lapointe really made herself known. “An exceptional artist, she bequeaths to the children and adults of Quebec the memory of her magnificent creations and their fantastic world. Her puppets, whom she called her children, remain in our children’s heads as precious, very real characters,” reads her obituary.

Nicole Lapointe’s funeral will be celebrated at Saint-Viateur Church in Outremont on Friday, August 18.
