Hutson, 19, has 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points in 39 games this season; impressive numbers. He finished the campaign ranked 7th in NCAA scoring and first among defensemen, ahead of Luke Hughes (47 points in 38 games), drafted fourth overall in 2021 by the New Jersey Devils.
In all fairness, Hutson had the most successful season by a first-year defenseman in recent NCAA history, according to data from the College Hockey News. The record belonged to Adam Fox, who had 40 points in 35 games in 2016-17.
