Yes, a female name for an all-male rock band. We’ll come back for originality. But beyond what we read on the business card, we have an interesting musical encounter with the guys from Sylvie on this short album Gros tape de rock.

This album is well titled, because it precisely offers progressive rock and greasy stoner sounds. Here again, of course, the originality is not there, when we have already heard this musical genre many times in recent years – Fred Fortin, Galaxie, Gros Mené. Still, what we listen to is well rendered. Here we are in the presence of very good musicians. We see it mainly on the second piece of this 7 pieces, Patte de loup, which, beyond its title and the shallow lyrics, offers very well-controlled guitar flights, with well-established tempo changes. Prog is present there, as well as Offenbach-style rock. The addition of the saxophone towards the end of the piece is a good idea. A great find! Thanks to the presence of Sam Hampell (Allo Fantôme) behind the wind instrument, he who returns on other occasions. Let us dare to write that each time it brings a breath of fresh air to the offering.

On the subject side, again, Sylvie does in the already-read/already-heard: individualism and environment (Encore en tard), toxic masculinity (Animal) and subjects that are lighter or conducive to lifting the elbow, a beer in hand.

It is therefore for the musical offer that we listen to this Big rock tape above all. Anis Azzoug, Vinny Batista, Simon Charette, Alex and Francis Lamontagne know their typical local bar blues rock. They have fun, and it shows.

Now that we’ve met, we hope for a second date with Sylvie… and that he will have more to say this time!
