Significant recall campaigns have been initiated recently by manufacturers Ford, General Motors (GM) and Mini to correct various issues that may affect the safety of certain models.
On the Ford side, this concerns 15,078 Broncos of model years 2021 to 2023 to correct a problem of accessibility to the front seat belts. A poorly placed trim limits the space to reach the belt clip. Only five-door body versions are affected by this recall and Ford says it will notify owners to have it corrected at a dealership.
As for GM, no less than 42,140 vehicles will have to stop in the workshop of a Canadian dealer for an airbag defect. Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia, all model years 2014 through 2017, will have the driver airbag module replaced. It is stated in the Transport Canada recall sheet that the air bag inflator could break and throw fragments when deployed. Injury could of course ensue.
Mini, for its part, warns owners of a risk of fire affecting 21,319 Clubman (2008 to 2014) and Cooper (2007 to 2013) model vehicles. The floor module controlling the electric lights and windows can corrode and cause a short circuit. Pending a fix, it is suggested that cars affected by this recall be parked outdoors, away from buildings or other vehicles.
