(London) Carlos Alcaraz won the final at Queen’s Club on Sunday, claiming a first ATP title on grass and reclaiming the top of the circuit standings.
This will allow him to be the favorite at Wimbledon next month.
Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-4, claiming a fifth title this year and 11th overall.
The 20-year-old Spaniard will replace Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP.
The Flushing Meadows champion will be a serious contender for the Serbian crown at Wimbledon. Last year, Alcaraz lost in the fourth round to Jannik Sinner.
Sunday’s final was Alcaraz’s first on grass. It was only a third tournament on the surface.
He had to save two break points in the eighth game of the first set; he followed that up with a break, then he won the set on serve.
Alcaraz pocketed the only break in the second set, when de Minaur double faulted.
He sealed the win on his first match point, when the Aussie sent a return too far.
