But Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance relaunched the debate by communicating his income.
On May 23, 2023, then questioned at the microphone of RTL, Bruno Le Maire replied to certain Internet users declaring that the latter was disconnected from the life of the French. “Real life, yes I know it,” he said then. “Of course not, the end of the month for a minister is not the same as the end of the month for someone who receives 1,200 or 1,300 euros,” he admitted all the same.
Previously invited on the set of the program Quelle epoque! on May 20, the Minister of the Economy aroused the anger of certain Internet users by declaring that he himself had a “large family with four children to feed”. He then revealed his salary in an attempt to end the debate. He announced to earn “7,450 euros net per month once taxes have been deducted”.
“I have a family, I have four children, I do my shopping, I pay for my food and that’s normal. I don’t occupy my company accommodation, I pay my rent,” said Bruno Le Maire. to Yves Calvi and Amandine Bégot. However, the latter returned to the reactions of Internet users that he does not seem to understand. “I don’t see why politicians would be treated better than others, but I don’t see why they would be treated less well,” he concluded.
