(Seattle) J.P. Crawford and Teoscar Hernandez contributed to a five-run outburst in the seventh inning with doubles good for two runs apiece, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-8 on Saturday.

Together, the two clubs slammed seven long balls. Also, they both hit three home runs in the same inning.

“Any time we can pull off a win like that against any team, it’s big for us, especially against a good team like the Blue Jays,” Crawford said.

The Mariners led 3-0, saw the Blue Jays come from behind and take a 5-3, 7-4 lead before regaining control of the game with their outburst in the seventh.

The Blue Jays made it interesting in the ninth inning with three hits against Justin Topa, including a productive single from Cavan Biggio that cut the Mariners lead to 9-8.

Topa retired Kevin Kiermaier on a fly ball, then George Springer on a ground ball as the tying run was at third base to end the game. He picked up a second save this season.

Cal Raleigh hit two long balls for the Mariners, and Dylan Moore and Julio Rodríguez added solo homers. For Rodríguez, it was his first since June 24.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Brandon Belt and Kiermaier homered for the Blue Jays in the fifth inning against starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. The Belt and Guerrero Jr. circuits were successful consecutively.

The Blue Jays then took a 7-4 lead when Dalton Varsho hit a single good for a run after two outs before crossing home plate when Hernandez reacted badly on an Alejandro Kirk hit.

However, the Mariners had a comeback in reserve. It started when Blue Jays reliever Nate Pearson (5-2) reached Ty France to open the seventh inning, and gave Moore a double.

Kolten Wong followed up with a one-run single and Crawford followed with his two-run double, which went past Guerrero Jr. at first base.

Yimi Garcia showed up on the mound for the Blue Jays, and for the second straight game, Hernandez had the best against his former team.

On Friday, he had scored the decisive point in the ninth inning. Less than 24 hours later, he hit his two-run double that gave the Mariners a 9-7 lead.

The victory went to the record of Isaiah Campbell (1-0).

“Our bullpen which has been very, very reliable for us this season has had a bit of a dip,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. “That’s baseball. It happens sometimes. »
