The return to calm soon? This night from Monday July 3 to Tuesday July 4 will not have been as violent as the previous ones. Indeed, 17 arrests would have been carried out in the Paris region without any major incident being detected. The police are strongly mobilized in the face of possible new episodes of urban violence after the death of Nahel in Nanterre on Tuesday, June 27.

First witness to the statements of the police: Emmanuel Macron. Accompanied by his Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, the Head of State was able to discuss a few hours with around fifty police officers from the Bac, the BRI, the CRS as well as the Paris firefighters. With his face uncovered but without the presence of the slightest camera, the President of the Republic faced a perilous exercise, displaying his support for the guardians of the Republic: “A message of confidence, of determination from the State for you support. I understand the professionalism and the requirement that is yours. We are with you, “defends Emmanuel Macron, according to comments collected by Le Parisien.

The political reactions to the tragic death of Nahel seem to have weakened the confidence of the representatives of the French order towards those of the State. On the front line, the declarations of the President of the Republic when he condemns the death of Nahel, recalls the Ile-de-France daily. Without forgetting the minute of silence in the National Assembly, arousing a new feeling of rejection and separation. The French, meanwhile, seem to have a differing opinion. Indeed, 57% of French people reiterate their confidence in the police according to Ifop for Le Figaro, despite recent events. The figures are unanimous, but the problems are far from being solved.

In a Parisian brasserie, five Bac police officers were able to talk with Emmanuel Macron. They perceive an increasingly pronounced “hatred of France”, especially after the degradations of various republican symbols. In addition, the prison box no longer seems to be scary. “Over there, in prison, they have all the TV channels, do bodybuilding, then mass gain and come out transformed,” one of them said sadly. The president prefers to highlight the efforts made over the past fifteen years: “we have never done so much for the neighborhoods as over the past fifteen years”, he recalls.

Even if for two days, calm seems to have settled, many doubts hover. The path is still long and the threat is always close. “I do not consider that it is behind us. We will see what will already happen on July 13 and 14 (on the occasion of the national holiday where new tensions are to be feared), and again the months to come”, admits Emmanuel Macron.

In the meantime, the executive will receive more than 200 mayors this Tuesday, July 4. This phase of listening and analysis will allow the president and his seconds to be able to draw the necessary lessons rather than hasty conclusions, with the risk of attracting new tornadoes of rural protests.
