In a surreal phone call, comedian Sébastien Trudel, ex-member of the Masked Vigilantes, managed to trap none other than… Donald Trump.
“I’m still a little on adrenaline,” says the host of the Énergie radio station, Sébastien Trudel, just a few hours after hanging up with the former President of the United States on Wednesday morning.
Known for his prank calls within the duo Les Justiciers maskés, the comedian says that the plan to catch the politician was decided on Monday.
It was understood that English-speaking host Jason Rockman, also in the shot, would pose as actor Clint Eastwood. A self-confessed Republican, the actor would seek to speak with the former president in order to express his support.
From experience, a hoax of this scale would have taken “months” to organize, argues Mr. Trudel. A little naively, the pair still gave it a try.
First step: the two accomplices contacted Donald Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach. It was a young employee who answered their call.
“He was told, ‘Clint Eastwood wants to talk to Trump. Write it down on a piece of paper and take it to someone important,” says Sébastien Trudel.
To their great surprise, the former president’s team took the bait. Tuesday evening, Mr. Trudel was contacted by an employee of Donald Trump, who told him that an interview could take place in the following hours.
Ultimately, the call was postponed until Wednesday morning in order to take place in the presence of American journalists, invited to attend the interview.
The call, which lasted more than ten minutes, was rather surreal. In a short excerpt from the call obtained by La Presse, Donald Trump addresses his indictment for attempted manipulation during the 2020 election in Georgia. “It’s terrible. Nobody believes it,” the former president exchanges in a cordial tone.
After a while, Sébastien Trudel joins the call, claiming that he is in fact the fighter Georges St-Pierre. He suggests organizing a fight against “Canadian champion Mario Tessier” to finance his electoral campaign, to which Donald Trump responds that it is a good idea and that they will “talk about it again”.
“You realize that he doesn’t suspect anything at all,” says Sébastien Trudel.
After about ten minutes, the comedian finally revealed the hoax. “He reacted well, I must say. But he was in front of the journalists,” notes Sébastien Trudel. The employee, for her part, was “in all her states”.
” This is completely crazy. It doesn’t even make sense! “, exclaims the comedian, still surprised by the success of the hoax.
