(Lake Forest) Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned Wednesday, after saying he needs to focus on his health and his family.

“I have to retire in order to take care of my health and my family,” he said. I appreciate the opportunity to work for the Chicago Bears, a prestigious NFL organization with a rich history. »

Williams’ resignation comes after the second meeting of his second season with the team. He missed last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for “personal reasons” after reporting for Game 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

Head coach Matt Eberflus called the plays on defense in Williams’ absence and will try to do so again when the Bears (0-2) face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
