While the summer period is in full swing, many French households are already leaving for the holidays. This signals the period of open burglaries. Indeed, the months of July and August are the most conducive to burglaries, with the months of November and December. However, some French regions are much more affected than others.

Indeed, this is the case of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, the Île-de-France region, as well as the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region which are all three on the podium of the regions which experience the most burglaries. Conversely, the regions of Brittany, Normandy and Corsica are the three regions least affected by these.

But when do burglars act? As France Live tells us, “globally, burglars rest on weekends: 75% of burglaries take place during the week”. And yes, 80% of the burglaries committed take place during the day, as the official website of the Ministry of the Interior tells us. It is therefore, in general, when you are at work or on vacation that thieves operate.

But how do burglars find out if we are away from home? These communicate with each other via signs written in chalk in front of your house. Nevertheless, they also use other tricks.
