Carson Briere, the son of Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere, was granted 15 months probation on Thursday after being charged with mischief and disorderly conduct last March.

Brière was a member of the Mercyhurst varsity team in Erie, Pennsylvania, when a video showing him nonchalantly swinging an unoccupied wheelchair down the stairs of a nightclub went viral. He and Patrick Carrozzi, who plays lacrosse for the university, had both been cut from their respective teams.

If they complete the 15 months of the program without a hitch, their charges will be dropped.

The wheelchair belonged to Sydney Benes, who lost her legs in a road accident in 2021.

Daniel Brière, ex-NHL player, apologized on behalf of his son in the days following the events. He claimed to have had “a shock” when he learned of the video, describing these actions as “inexcusable”. “Carson is sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior,” he added.

His son, more succinctly, declared that he was “deeply sorry for [his] behavior”. “There is no excuse for my actions and I will do everything I can to make amends for this serious lapse in judgment. »

This was not the first time Brière was kicked out of a hockey program. In November 2019, Arizona State University fired him “due to a violation of team rules,” a staff member told Walter Cronkite Sports Network at the time.
