Ecology is a major topic today. To save our planet, many changes must be made at the national and international level but also at our level. Indeed, to reverse the climate trend, we must be more responsible on a daily basis, this means adapting each of our actions so that they are more respectful of the environment.

But a few years ago, when our grandparents were still young, the question of the climate did not arise. Indeed, at the time, global warming was not yet a known fact to everyone and terms such as eco-anxiety were still far from existing.

Paradoxically, our ancestors had a behavior much more respectful of nature than ours. Raised by parents born at the end of the 19th century, our grandparents applied sobriety on a daily basis, they had “unknowingly, understood everything about sustainable development”, explains Christine Castelain Meunier, sociologist at the National Center for Scientific Research ( CNRS) and co-author of Devenir ecoféministe, in the columns of Ouest-France.

“They didn’t care about the environment, because the environment was part of their concept of life,” she says. But these gestures of our grandmothers might have everything to gain from returning to our daily lives in the 21st century. Indeed, at a time when sobriety is a major issue, taking inspiration from our ancestors could be a good idea.
