Inflation: flour, toilet paper… Supermarket prices continue to rise

The explosion in the price of fuel is not the only thing to hurt the wallets of the French. For more than a year, some supermarket products have been reserved for a lucky few. This is the case for products affected by the rise in raw materials in the context of the war in Ukraine, the main wheat exporting country in Europe. The increase in energy prices also has a strong impact on the prices of fresh and frozen products.

The inflation rate and the consequent rise in prices are felt more strongly in certain French departments; this is the case for Ile-de-France and the south-east of France (Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Var and even Bouches-du-Rhône). On the other hand, good news, the inflation rate has fallen since the last month and the rise in prices seems to be slowing down without stagnating. “It’s a slower rate of progression than what we experienced for most of 2022 since, since April, we had about a point increase every month”, explained Emmanuel Fournet. , director of the NielsenlQ for Franceinfo. The Vendée remains the cheapest department in France, where the shopping basket is on average 25 euros cheaper than in the Paris region.

According to the analysis carried out by Franceinfo, the winning products of the inflationary race remain flour (44% increase for a first price), frozen minced meat (31.88% more compared to last year ) and toilet paper (29.02%). Canned peas also experienced a significant increase, of around 21.66% in one year, linked to the summer drought. Here is the list of other products that have suffered price increases of more than 10%.
